RESUMO

This research focuses on the effectiveness of electrolyzed water (50 and 100 ppm for 3 min), ultrasonication (80 W for 3 min), and their combinations on fresh strawberries, which are then packaged using microperforated film to enhance their storage stability. The gas composition in the headspace, pH, soluble solids, color (L*, a*, b*, and ΔE* values), anthocyanins, total phenolics, and texture profile was evaluated for the 35 days of storage at +4 °C. The lowest weight loss was measured at about 100 ppm electrolyzed water (EW; 0.47%), and the highest one was in the control group (0.57%) after storage. At the end of the storage, O2 in the headspace decreased from 20.90% to 10.50-8.10% and CO2 was accumulated from 0.03% to 16.4-14.34%. The results showed that soluble solids decreased (9.95 to 8.48-7.85 °Bx) and pH values increased (3.34 to 3.79-3.91) during storage. At the end of the storage, the total phenolics in the control group decreased by the most during storage (from 1209.09 ppm to 808.00 ppm), whereas the 50 ppm EW group had the highest (931.66 ppm). Further, the significantly highest anthocyanin amount was found to be 143.86 ppm in the 100 ppm EW group at the end of 28 days of storage. The EW can significantly delay the degradation of anthocyanin over the storage period. The sonication at 100 ppm EW damages strawberry tissues, reducing their hardness. The lowest decay rate was found in fruits treated with 100 ppm EW (41.67%), followed by 50 ppm EW (58.33%), compared to the control (75.00%). This study reveals that applications of the 50 ppm EW and also 50 pm EW combined with ultrasonication have great potential in the extending storage stability of the fresh strawberries.

RESUMO

In this work, various concepts and features of anthocyanins have been comprehensively reviewed, taking the benefits of the scientific publications released mainly within the last five years. Within the paper, common topics such as anthocyanin chemistry and occurrence, including the biosynthesis of anthocyanins emphasizing the anthocyanin formation pathway, anthocyanin chemistry, and factors influencing the anthocyanins' stability, are covered in detail. By evaluating the recent in vitro and human experimental studies on the absorption and bioavailability of anthocyanins present in typical food and beverages, this review elucidates the significant variations in biokinetic parameters based on the model, anthocyanin source, and dose, allowing us to make basic assumptions about their bioavailability. Additionally, special attention is paid to other topics, such as the therapeutic effects of anthocyanins. Reviewing the recent in vitro, in vivo, and epidemiological studies on the therapeutic potential of anthocyanins against various diseases permits a demonstration of the promising efficacy of different anthocyanin sources at various levels, including the neuroprotective, cardioprotective, antidiabetic, antiobesity, and anticancer effects. Additionally, the studies on using plant-based anthocyanins as coloring food mediums are extensively investigated in this paper, revealing the successful use of anthocyanins in coloring various products, such as dietary and bakery products, mixes, juices, candies, beverages, ice cream, and jams. Lastly, the successful application of anthocyanins as prebiotic ingredients, the innovation potential of anthocyanins in industry, and sustainable sources of anthocyanins, including a quantitative research literature and database analysis, is performed.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hairy cell leukemia is a rare B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. It has an indolent course with relapse and remission periods. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics and risk factors affecting the outcome of patients with hairy cell leukemia. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The retrospective data of 65 patients were evaluated according to initial hematologic and biochemical parameters, response rates, progression-free survival, and overall survival. Factors effecting response and survival rates were analyzed. RESULTS: The median follow-up duration was 62.8 months (range, 5.7-229.3 months). The result of the analysis showed that the patients with relapse/progressive disease had higher lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels at the time of diagnosis than patients without relapse/progression (median [range], 243 [137-540] vs. 179 [99-334] U/L, P = .01). Patients with LDH ≥ 200.5 IU at the time of diagnosis were demonstrated to have a shorter progression-free survival than those with LDH < 200.5 IU (P = .010). CONCLUSION: Serum LDH level is significantly associated with relapse/progression in hairy cell leukemia patients. Patients with higher LDH levels at diagnosis should be monitored closely even if they experience complete remission.

RESUMO

Low-grade Nonhodgkin lymphoma (LG-NHL) is characterized by indolent clinical course, which consist of marginal zone lymphoma (MZL), follicular lymphoma (FL), chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma, lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) as the most common subtypes. Factors affecting prognosis and treatment need in these patients have long been the subject of research. A retrospective study was conducted with patients diagnosed with LG-NHL in Hematology Departments of two centres between 2010 and 2018. At the time of diagnosis, demographic and disease characteristics, hematological and biochemical parameters were examined. Using these data, treatment requirements, response and survival rates were calculated. The effect of parameters on survival and need to treatment were analyzed. 93 LG-NHL patients were included in this study. 40 (43%) of these patients were MZL, 28 (30.1%) were FL and 25 (26.8%) were others. In comparison of patients required treatment with patients without treatment, there was significant difference among the number of comorbidity, platelet count, neutrophil count, disease subgroups and ferritin levels. Logistic regression analysis revealed that disease subgroup (other than MZL and FL) and ferritin levels were independent risk factors for need to treatment. Only ferritin level was found to be associated with overall survival. The current study demonstrated an association between serum ferritin levels and prognosis in patients with LG-NHL. Given that it is easily available and low-cost, the initial ferritin level can be used as a prognostic marker for patients with indolent lymphoma.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Patients with cancer are at increased risk of thromboembolic complications. There is no evidence-based guideline on the use of routine prophylaxis in hematological malignancies except in patients with multiple myeloma. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and risk factors of thrombosis and suggest a rationale for primary thromboprophylaxis in acute leukemia and lymphoma patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on newly-diagnosed acute leukemia and lymphoma patients who presented at our institution from November 2009 to March 2018. The study included a total of 157 patients with acute leukemia and 238 patients with lymphoma. The groups were analyzed to determine the incidence and risk factors of thromboembolic complications. RESULTS: The incidence of all thrombotic complications was 10.12% (40/395) including 11.4% (18/157) in patients with acute leukemia and 9.2% (22/238) in patients with lymphoma. The majority of events occurred in the first 6 months. Acute leukemia patients with thrombosis had a higher number of comorbidities than those without thrombosis (p < 0.05). Lymphoma patients with thrombotic complications had significantly higher beta-2-microglobulin and lactate dehydrogenase levels compared to those without thrombosis (p < 0.05). Major bleeding events developed in five (3.1%) acute leukemia patients and two (0.8%) lymphoma patients. All the major bleeding events occurred when the patients were thrombocytopenic (platelet < 50,000/mm3). CONCLUSIONS: Acute leukemia patients with any comorbidity and lymphoma patients with higher lactate dehydrogenase and beta-2-microglobulin are at high risk of developing thromboembolic complications. The prophylactic use of anticoagulant should be considered for those patients especially in the first 6 months.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Central nervous system lymphomas (CNSLs) require effective treatment strategies due to aggressive nature of disease. Despite therapeutic approaches having improved in the last decades, there is no standard treatment for these patients. As a CNSL targeted-therapy IDARAM protocol was developed, the outcomes were reported with a few studies. We observed the R-IDARAM protocol in our CNSL cases, and we discuss the effectiveness, tolerability, and toxicity with a review of the literature in this article. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed response rates, progression-free survival, adverse events, and long-term side effects in patients who were treated by modified R-IDARAM as standard clinical care of CNSL in our hematology department. RESULTS: Response was achieved in five of nine patients. Three patients (two primary CNSL and one secondary CNSL) are still being followed up without disease progression with a median duration of follow-up of 79 months (88, 79, and 17 months, respectively). Manageable hematological side effects including thrombocytopenia and neutropenia were experienced by all patients. CONCLUSION: R-IDARAM protocol may be an option with high early response rates and manageable toxicity. Hematological side effects are the main problem, and long-term neurological toxicity is not common. Eligible patients must continue with autologous stem cell transplantation due to poor long-term survival outcomes.

RESUMO

The case is here presented of a 70-year old male patient with rare coexistence of Kaposi Sarcoma and resistant Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP). The Kaposi lesions were determined before the diagnosis of TTP and were exacerbated after receiving TTP-associated immunosuppressive therapy, in particular associated with rituximab. TTP in this case was resistant to conventional therapies such as steroid and plasma exchange and current immunosuppressive (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, vincristin) treatments. Novel treatment agents consisting of bortezomib and eculizumab given to the patient were also ineffective. To the best of our knowledge, this case presents the first case of coexistence of TTP and Kaposi sarcoma from Turkey and the challenge of refractory TTP management.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Different modalities of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) apheresis are used to treat patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). The aim of this study was to describe the efficacy of the Double Filtration Plasmapheresis (DFPP) method for FH cases in our hands and to compare with other LDL apheresis techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted between January 2016 and January 2018 in the University of Health Sciences, Diskapi Yildirim Beyazit Training and Research Hospital, Adult Hematology Clinic and Therapeutic Apheresis Unit. The study included 5 patients with a diagnosis of homozygous FH. A total of 288 DFFP procedures were performed twice a month (every 15 days) for 2 years. RESULTS: The percentage reductions in Lipoprotein A, total cholesterol, Low Density Lipoprotein-C, High Density Lipoprotein-C and triglyceride levels were found to be 84%, 69.2%, 69.8%, 58.8% and 50.1% respectively (5 cases, n = 288). No cardiac event occurred after the initiation of LA with DFPP. CONCLUSION: DFPP is an effective and safe LA method that can be used in the treatment of homozygous FH patients who do not respond to diet and statin therapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Prophylaxis is strongly recommended in patients with hematological malignancy who are usually at higher risk for infection and neutropenic fever. It is still unclear whether or not there is a definite need for antimicrobial prophylaxis in intermediate-risk hematology patients such as those with lymphoma. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was made of patients admitted from January 2009 to December 2017 to the Hematology Department of Diskapi Yildirim Beyazit Training and Research Hospital, a tertiary referral hospital in Ankara, Turkey. The study included patients who were diagnosed with any type of lymphoma and given chemotherapy. Routine antimicrobial prophylaxis was administered to 127 lymphoma patients, and not to 65 lymphoma patients. These two groups were compared in respect of the incidence of total infection episodes (IE), febrile neutropenia episodes, and nonneutropenic clinically documented infection episodes. RESULTS: For all patients with lymphoma and subtypes of non-Hodgkin lymphoma or Hodgkin lymphoma, no significant difference was determined between the groups in respect of the total incidence of IE, febrile neutropenia and nonneutropenic clinically documented infection both during the first-line chemotherapy and throughout the total follow-up period (p > 0.05). Patients with prophylaxis had a higher incidence of IE, which was treated with parenteral antibiotics both during the first-line chemotherapy and throughout the total follow-up period (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Antimicrobial prophylaxis was seen to have no effect on the total incidence of infection episode and febrile neutropenia. Therefore, the routine use of antimicrobial prophylaxis should not be recommended for patients with lymphoma.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The effect of a prophylactic oleuropein-rich diet before anesthesia accompanied by the widely-used steroid-based neuromuscular drug rocuronium on mast cell activation was investigated in the study. METHODS: 14 rabbits used in the study. The rabbits in the oleuropein group were given oleuropein-rich extract added to the animals' water at doses of 20 mg/kg oleuropein for 15 days orally. After 15 days, all rabbits in the two groups were given general anesthesia with rocuronium of 1 mg/kg. After 1 day, animals were sacrificed and the liver tissue sections stained with H&E, toluidine blue and tryptase for immunohistochemical study. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference between ALT, AST and albumin averages of the oleuropein and control groups (p> 0.05). The tryptase average of the control group was higher than the tryptase average of the oleuropein group and this difference was statistically significant (p=0.003). The T. blue average in the oleuropein group was higher than the control group. However, there was no statistically significant difference between groups (p=0.482). CONCLUSIONS: Rocuronium adverse effects, like hypersensitivity and anaphylaxis, may limit routine use of this substance. The use of oleuropein reduced the number of inflammatory cells and prevented degranulation.

RESUMO

Various side effects associated with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) which is used for cryopreservation of bone marrow or peripheral blood progenitor cells (PBPCs) have been reported. Among the central nervous system side effects the epileptic seizures, stroke, transient and temporary leucoencephalopathy, and global amnesia are well known. Herein we report a 52-year-old man who experienced tonic-clonic seizure within minutes after the initiation of DMSO cryopreserved autologous PBPC infusion. Unfortunately, he also developed cardiac arrest and required intubation for ventilation after the seizure. Pathophysiology of acute neurological and cardiac toxicity is unclear, but may also be idiosyncratic. Clinicians should be aware of the toxicity of cryoprotectant agents during PBSC infusion. Determining the risk factors associated with increased DMSO toxicity and taking preventive actions is utmost important.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Bacterial infections and febrile neutropenia (FN) are major causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with hematological malignancy. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and risk factors of infections in lymphoma patients. METHODOLOGY: This retrospective study was conducted on 200 lymphoma patients diagnosed and treated between January 2009 and December 2017 in Diskapi Yildirim Beyazit Training and Research Hospital, a tertiary referral hospital in Ankara, Turkey. RESULTS: The mean follow-up period was 20.09 ± 19.81 months. The incidence of infection episode (IE) was 32.5% (65/200) and FN was 18.5% (37/200). Analysis of the data revealed that patients with IE had significantly higher rates of diagnosis of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL), lower baseline hemoglobin, lower baseline hematocrit, higher baseline lactate dehydrogenase levels, higher usage of central cathater, and a higher number of chemotherapy lines compared to patients with no IE. In logistic regression analysis, disease subtype of PCNSL, usage of central catheter and lactate deyhydrogenase (LDH) were found to increase the risk of infection. The odds ratio for PCNSL was 37.866 (p = 0.003), 2.679 for central catheter (p = 0.008) and 1.001 for LDH (p = 0.011). CONCLUSIONS: The risk of infection in patients with lymphoma was associated with central catheter usage, higher LDH levels and a diagnosis of PCNSL. Baseline hematological parameters were not determined to have any impact on the occurrence of infection. Patients with these risk factors should be monitored more carefully and the maximum level of infection prevention should be taken.

RESUMO

Saprochaete capitata (formerly known as Blastoschizomyces capitatus, Trichosporon capitatum, Geotrichum capitatum) is a rare but emerging yeast-like fungus. It is commonly found in environmental sources and can be isolated from skin, gastrointestinal system and respiratory tract of healthy individuals as well. It mainly infects patients with hematological malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML), especially in the presence of neutropenia; and mortality rates are high in those patients. Although the data about the in vitro antifungal susceptibility are limited, it is being reported that amphotericin B and voriconazole are more effective on S.capitata isolates whereas caspofungin had no activity. Here, we report a case of fungemia and septic arthritis due to S.capitata in a patient with Fanconi aplastic anemia. A 22-year-old male patient with Fanconi aplastic anemia was hospitalized in our hematology department for bone marrow transplantation. Two days after the hospitalization, neutropenic fever developed and multiple nodules similar to candidiasis were detected in his liver with the whole abdomen magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Caspofungin treatment (single 70 mg/kg loading dose, followed by 1 x 50 mg/kg/day) was started. The patient remained febrile, and his blood culture yielded S.capitata. The treatment regimen was changed to a combination of liposomal amphotericin B (3 mg/kg/day) and voriconazole (2 x 4 mg/kg/day). A few days later, pain and swelling came out on patient's left knee and he underwent a surgical process with the prediagnosis of septic arthritis. Culture of synovial fluid was also positive for S.capitata. On the 26th day of the hospitalization, the patient died due to sepsis and multiple organ failure. Patient's blood and synovial fluid samples were incubated in BacT/Alert automated blood culture system (bioMérieux, France). After receiving the growth signal, yeast cells were seen in Gram staining and cream-coloured, wrinkled, yeast-like colonies that were able to grow at 45oC and resistant to cycloheximide were detected on Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA). Urease test was negative, and according to API 20C AUX (bioMérieux, France) system, none of the carbonhydrates were utilized except glucose. The isolates that were able to produce annelloconidia in corn meal-Tween 80 agar slide culture were identified as S.capitata. The identification was further confirmed by DNA sequence analysis. Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of amphotericin B, fluconazole, voriconazole, and caspofungin were found to be 0.5 µg/ml, 1.5 µg/ml, 0.032 µg/ml, and > 16 µg/ml respectively. Repetitive sequence based PCR (rep-PCR) (DiversiLab system, bioMérieux, France) was used to determine clonal relatedness of the isolates from blood and synovial fluid samples. The isolates were indistinguishable (similarity coefficient > 97%) according to rep-PCR. In conclusion, S.capitata infections should be taken into consideration in the presence of fungemia and septic arthritis in hematological patients who receive caspofungin therapy.

RESUMO

Aspergillus lateral-flow device (LFD) was recently introduced as a practical tool for the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis (IA). We investigated the performance of Aspergillus-LFD as a point-of-care test for the diagnosis of IA. Serum samples were collected twice weekly from patients who received intensive chemotherapy for acute leukemia, or recepients of allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Aspergillus galactomannan (GM) antigen, 1,3-beta-d-glucan and Aspergillus-LFD tests were carried out according to manufacturers' recommendations. GM testing was repeated with a modified procedure which was proven to increase the sensitivity. Aspergillus-LFD was performed without applying any pretreatment procedure to allow the kit to fit as a point-of-care test. Fungal infections were categorized according to European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer/Invasive Fungal Infections Cooperative Group and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Mycoses Study Group (EORTC/MSG) criteria. A total of 75 neutropenia episodes in 64 patients were prospectively followed between February 2012 and January 2013. Probable IA was diagnosed in 11 patients, probable pulmonary fungal disease was diagnosed in one patient, and rhinocerebral aspergillosis was diagnosed in one patient. Fungemia was detected in two patients. Aspergillus-LFD was positive in serum of a patient with probable IA and in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of an other patient with probable IA. Aspergillus-LFD was false positive in serum of two patients. Although there was no radiological finding of IA or documented fungemia, fever resolved after empirical caspofungin therapy in one of these patients. The sensitivity of Aspergillus-LFD as a point-of-care test without any pretreatment of serum sample is low.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to develop a molecular technique to determine the level of human originated DNA contamination in unhygienic food products. In the study, four model foods were prepared under both hygienic (H) and non-hygienic (NH) conditions and the human originated microbial loads of these products were determined. DNA was extracted from the model foods and human buccal samples by GIDAGEN Multi-fast DNA isolation kit. A primer specific region of human mitochondrial D-Loop was designed. The level of human DNA contamination in the model foods was determined by real-time PCR. The sensitivity of the technique developed here was 0.00001ng DNA/PCR. In addition, the applicability of the traceable molecular hygiene control method (TMHCM) was tested in 60 food samples from the market. The results of this study demonstrate that DNA based TMHCM can be used to predict to what extent foods meet the human oriented hygienic conditions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Oleuropein is known to have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. An important aim of anesthetic management in ocular surgery is to keep the intraocular pressure under control. Studies have researched a variety of prophylactic materials used to prevent increases in intraocular pressure. We aimed to research the effects of oleuropein on intraocular pressure (IOP) during general anaesthesia. METHODS: Fourteen New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into two groups of seven. The rabbits in Group O were given olive leaf extract (OLE) equivalent to a daily dose of 20 mg/kg oleuropein for 15 days. HPLC method used for oleuropein standardization. For anaesthesia induction 1 mg/kg rocuronium was given and after muscle relaxation all animals had a V-gel Rabbit inserted. Anesthetic maintenance was provided by 1 MAC isoflurane. Twenty minutes after rabbits were given 10 mg/kg ketamine, basal IOP values were measured. After the V-gel rabbit was inserted, in the 5th, 10th, 20th, 25th and 30th minutes measurements were repeated. RESULTS: IOP data variation of OLE group was compared with control group and the measured levels were lower in Group O during the anaesthesia. IOP was 33.8 ± 4 mmHg in Group C and 24.1 ± 8 mmHg in Group O in 25th minute and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant at this time. CONCLUSION: We observed that consumption of prophylactic OLE had a reducing effect on IOP in the period before waking in anaesthesia. We believe it is necessary to investigate the effects of OLE on IOP in broad participation patient groups.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Relapse of leukemia relapsing after allogeneic (allo) stem cell transplantation (SCT) remains an important problem. Cytoreductive chemotherapy followed by donor leukocyte infusion (DLI) is one of the treatment modalities in relapsed patients. The current study evaluated the factors affecting overall survival (OS) in allo-SCT patients who received DLI after the first relapse. METHODS: In this retrospective study 54 patients (26 with acute myeloid leukemia [AML] and 28 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia [ALL]) in their first relapse after allo-SCT who received fludarabine-based chemotherapy followed by DLI were evaluated. RESULTS: The relative risk for mortality was significantly higher in patients with acute leukemia (AL) within the high-risk group who went through transplantation (risk ratio: 4.866; 95% CI: 2.029-11.670;p<0.001) and in transplants performed in the remission phases following the first complete remission (risk ratio: 2.371; 95% CI: 1.154 - 4.872; p=0.019). Additionally, the relative mortality risk of transplantation in patients with acute leukemia (AL) with a number of DLIs applied (risk ratio: 0.456; 95% CI: 0.29 - 0.717; p=0.001) nd non-myeloablative regimen (risk ratio: 0.229; 95% CI: 0.053-0.992; p=0.049) was significantly lower. CONCLUSION: Efforts to enhance the number of DLIs, thus the number of infused cells, may result in better OS in cases with AL with relapse.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The prognosis of Philadelphia-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph(+) ALL) is generally poor. Currently, allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) is the only accepted therapy with curative potential. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Herein, we report our multicenter, retrospective experience with 46 (23 female; 23 male) Ph(+) ALL patients, who were treated off-study between 2005 and 2012. RESULTS: The median age of the patients was 46 years (range, 19-73 years). During induction, 30 (65%), 13 (28%), and 3 (7%) patients received tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) concurrent with chemotherapy (TKIs/chemotherapy), chemotherapy only, and TKIs only, respectively. Following induction, rates of complete remission (CR) of the study population were 85% (n = 39). CR rate in patients receiving TKIs during induction (n = 33) was significantly higher compared with patients who received chemotherapy only (n = 13; P = .011). Taking TKIs during induction significantly reduced induction mortality (3.3% vs. 38%; P = .01). Allo-HCT was performed subsequently in 21 (46%) patients. More patients who received TKIs with or without chemotherapy (19/33; 58%) during induction were able to undergo to allo-HCT compared with patients who received chemotherapy only (2/13; 15%; P = .005). Median overall survival of patients who were treated with TKIs during induction and received allo-HCT (not reached; NR) was significantly prolonged compared with patients who received allo-HCT but without TKIs during induction (23.2 months) and to the rest of the cohort (21.2 months; P = .019). CONCLUSIONS: Current state-of-the art management of Ph(+) ALL in real-life seems to be incorporation of TKIs to chemotherapy regimens and proceeding to allo-HCT, whenever possible.

RESUMO

We investigated the course of 54 patients presenting with primary central nervous system lymphoma, who were treated in daily practice. The patients were treated with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy and/or intrathecal chemotherapy. At a median follow-up period of 23 months (range 1-71), median relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were not reached. Estimated 2-year RFS and OS rates were 42% and 48%, respectively. Ten relapsed PCNSL patients underwent ASCT. Complete remission rate of these patients was 40%, with 20% treatment-related mortality. Estimated 2-year RFS and OS rates were 37% and 40%, respectively. The prognosis of patients with PCNSL, who received off-study treatment, is still dismal.
